Important Spyware News.... Tired of your computer being slow while connected to the internet?
Microsoft AntiSpyware

Microsoft has refreshed the beta of their spyware program. If you are using a version prior to 11/24, it will expire on 12/31. To continue using the program, you will need to get the updated version. For more information please see http://www.abc-comp.com/msasp.htm

For Everyone.....

There are some relatively new strains of spyware that are increasingly difficult to remove going around on the internet. One of them is now using Macromedia Shockwave to deliver the popups. This one is particularly nasty, as the advertisers keep changing.

Still don't know what spyware is, or you want to know how to keep it off your computer? Then sign up for the Internet Security Seminar. We have several times offered each month, and there are a lot of good take aways from this seminar, including a CD with many spyware removal tools.

I need to know more about spyware.

Tips and Tricks - Anatomy of a Window
Microsoft Windows is a Graphical program, this means that graphics can represent programs, documents, functions, features, etc. Let's take a few minutes to understand the anatomy of a Window.

All Windows contain the same components. This includes Windows XP, Office productivity programs, Graphics programs, Accounting programs, and many more.

In the table below are the common Windows components.

Component

Component

Description

Title Bar

The Title Bar is the horizontal bar located at the top of the window. The title bar displays the name of the application associated with the window, and often the name of the file that is currently in use by the program.

Menu Bar

The Menu Bar is the horizontal bar located beneath the Title bar. This text menu contains the commands available for the current window. This menu almost always starts with the File Menu.

Toolbar

The toolbar is generally located beneath the Menu Bar. The toolbar is a collection of button icons that represent frequently used menu commands.

Status Bar

This horizontal informational bar is located at the bottom of the window. This will often display information about the status of the toggle keys (Scroll Lock, Num Lock, Caps Lock) or Editing mode (Insert or Overwrite), as well as page number, cursor location, etc.

Control Menu Buttons

The last items in the window are the control menu buttons. There are three buttons in the upper right corner of the window. One is the minimize button, the maximize or restore button, and the Exit button. These buttons control the window, allowing you to minimize the window to the taskbar, maximize the window to full screen or restoring a maximized windows to it’s normal settings, or to exit the window. There is a fourth often missed control menu button. That one is the icon in the upper left corner of the window. Clicking this icon will give you the Control Menu, where you can see the options available for your window.

Practice using the above window components. Next time we'll cover moving, and resizing windows.
